Evangelism Opportunities

-  Food Pantry
Fall is here and the holidays are right around the corner.  Just walk into any retail store and the Christmas trees are already up!  This time of year reminds us of the needs of others.  In the month of September the Zion Food Pantry served 68 families.  The pantry is holding its own financially thanks to your contributions.  I hope each one of you knows what a vital impact you make when you give to our pantry.  Thank you.
In September we filed for a grant with the Arlington Archdiocese of the Catholic Church.  Each year they sponsor the Operation Rice Bowl Grant and we have been very blessed the past two years to receive money to help fund our mission.  This year their funds are limited but we are still hoping for a generous gift.  We are also pleased to report that with the support of Lindsey Starin, a member of the Zion family and a teacher at Courtland High School, the food pantry will be the recipient of Courtland High School's Fall Canned Food Drive.  This is exciting news!  Last year we received 1600 canned food items from this drive and it greatly helped our mission plus saved the pantry money.  Thank you so much, Lindsey!
There is also another bit of good news to share with you.  If you have been keeping up with the food pantry news you will know that we have students from the Rappahannock Juvenile Detention Center volunteer their time to help us each month.  Luka, one of the students who was released several months ago, has come each month since then, on his own, to help carry client boxes and assist in other tasks. Luka is making a heartfelt effort to change his life.  This is another example how Zion's light of Christ is making a difference in the world.
As the weeks fly by and we get into the hustle of the holiday season, please remember our friends in need in our community.  We appreciate any amount of giving to this wonderful Zion-family mission.  We can and do make a difference.  Checks can be made out to Zion UMC with the notation:  Food Pantry.
Thank you, friends! Christine Braxton, Food Pantry Coordinator
